He has worked in various areas of management of the European and APMEA businesses and was appointed to his stylish position of Managing Director of the APMEA business in 2009. We provide complete restaurant solutions, incorporating manufacturing, logistics, after sales service and project management with over 1,300 employees worldwide with operations in the U.S. Mexico, U.K. Canada, China, Japan, Indonesia, and Australia. The AK story started in Canada in 1975, when a plumbing contractor, Bill Griffith was doing some work for the McDonald’s restaurants in Toronto. Well, would you like to set up something for us in Europe? So a little factory was established in Ballyfermot (Dublin region) employing around 50 people and fabricating stainless steel whole kitchen packages for McDonald’s in Europe. Market was supplied from Canada and in 1981 a production facility was set up in Dallas to urge the growing demand in North America. In 199, nearly 25 years after supplying the beginning kitchen in Canada, AK was asked by McDonald’s to look at setting up an operation base in Australia to support their expansion. The Mexican production facility has proven to be a great triumph and in 2007, in line with the forecaster expansion plans of our customer, AK decided to amplify the manufacturing capacity and the plant was expanded by 200. Over the years AK has everlasting looked at ways to innovate, not only in the fabrication of the equipment but also in the overall promote and business management fields. AK are also very elated to have received through the years some great awards in recognition of the firm work, excellence and dedication of the AK employees. Starting from modest beginnings in Canada in 1975 AK has grown, with immense urge from customers, to be an imperative global supplier: McDonald’s development of new restaurants in Europe was growing. We opened in Chariot Way in 1986 on the outskirts of Rugby in a 200m2 unit with two welders, a plant manager and a secretary. We received a lot of support from personnel within the global AK Group and earlier long the Rugby plant was suited of producing the stuffed range of McDonald’s equipment. Manufacturing and logistical activities increased over the following years, especially with the numbers of fresh place kitchen shipments, remodels kitchen orders and resupply kitchen parts support. The requirement for a dedicated warehouse facility became a necessity and in 1996 Unit B was set up as a 4500m2 warehouse offices facility. Business activity continued to grow across all our European business, such that we outgrew the Unit B facility. There are 24 employees today in the Rugby operation that have more than 20 years of service, one of whom joined in 1986! Today, between the manufacturing plant and the warehouse operation, we are employing almost 200 people.
